Arrival at St. John's

After arrival, pick up the rental car and drive to the hotel Leaside Manor Inn or similar. Check-in and time to discover the city. The roadbook and more information are available at the reception of the hotel. 

 

day 2

St. John's

1 Day

This morning, you enjoy an escorted tour around town. Some of the highlights are definetly Quidi Vidi, a picturesque fishing village, Cape Spear National Historic Site with a lighthouse build in 1836 and restored in its former glory. The Government House and Signal Hill Historic Park are definitely worth a visit. You can visit the bastion from 1812 and the hill top above Signal Hill offers a wonderful panorama view on the city and harbour. In the afternoon, you travel to Bay Bulls and enjoy a nice boat trip (included) through the protected nature area of Witless Bay. The region has the biggest concentration of Humback whales. Afterwards via the south coast to Ferryland, to hava a relaxing picknick at the lighthouse. Back to St. John's for lodgings.

St. John's - Trinity

Today, you follow the deeply intented coastal route from Conception Bay to the beautiful Brigus, once the residence of the famous polar explorer Bob Bartlett. Visit the Hawthorne Cottage and the Olde Stone Barn Museum and continue the trip via the Conception Bay Route to Trinity, one of the most likeable towns. The little streets and wooden houses will charm you. Definitely visit the Ryan Store, Hiscock House, the Green Family Forge and the Historical Museum. Lodgings.

Today you can explore the region around Trinity. Several places were used as a movie decor. Bonavista is one of the most important places in the region and the bold red and white lighthouse became the symbol of Newfoundland. In the city center, you can find several wonderfully restored buildings (Ryan Premises & Mockbeggar Plantation) and the Bonavista Museum. Lodgings in Trinity.

Trinity - Twilingate/Notre Dame Bay

This day starts with a relaxing drive through the wonderful Terra Nova National Park, situated between Newman and Clode Sound. At the park, you will encounter a big variety of flora and you might meet some mooses, bears, lyxes and foxes. Afterwards, you follow the 'Road to the Beaches' and make sure to make a stop at Eastport and Salvage, named one of the most beautiful villages of Canada. Travel further north to Twillingate and definitely visit the Long Point Lighthouse and the famous Prime Berth Fishing Museum. Lodgings for two nights in Twillingate.

Twillingate

This morning you can enjoy a nice boat trip around Twillingate Island (included) in the famous Iceberg Alley and at Notre Dame Bay. At the beginning of summer, you can see the enormous ice mountains from the north floating by. The rest of the day, you can explore the city by yourself. Taking small side roads, you reach the rugged north coast with protected bays, lighthouses and picturesque fishing villages. Or take the ferry to Fogo Island. Lodgings.

Twillingate - Gros Morne National Park

Travel to the west, through the wonderful woods and landscapes to Deer Lake to follow the famous Vicking Trail to the Gros Morne National Park. This nature park became UNESCO World Heritage in 1987. In the south of the park, you can find the 'Tablelands', a plateau formed from a rock that is normally only seen in the earth's crust, 600 meter above sea level. Follow one of the marked hiking trips through this tundra or opt for a sea trip at Trout River. Lodgings.

Gros Morne National Park

A short drive to Rocky Harbour, the start of your journey to discover the Gros Morne National Park. At the top of the 805 meter high Gros Morne, you have a breathtaking view over the plateau, the coast and the glacial valleys. This afternoon, the spectacular Western Brook Pond Fjord tour is planned. This tour is the only way (except by helicopter) to explore this wonderful fjord. You make a 45 minute walk over a constructed parcours to the dock to embark for an unforgetable boat trip along the 600 meters high walls of this immense chasm. Eagles, mooses and chamoises can be seen all year round.

Gros Morne National Park - Quirpon Island

You drive futher north and along the way you can visit Port aux Choix Historic Site, to see art - and daily use artefacts from the maritime population, who lived there thousands of years ago. Futher to the dock, where you take the 4 p.m. ferry to Quirpon Island for an unique experience. You will spend the night in the original, but renovated, house of the lighthouse keeper, situated on the northern tip of the island. (meals are included on the island)

Quirpon Island

Relax and enjoy the activities on and around the island: observe the whales or make a long walk in the wonderful nature. During season, Quirpin Island is one of the best locations to see the ice moutains float to the south and see the different whale migrations. Lodgings on the island (all meals included).

Quirpon island - Main Brook

Travel further to l'Anse aux Meadows and visit Norstead Viking Village, an authentic Viking settlement. Discover the Grenfell Historic Properties in St. Anthony, a village with historical houses who tell the evolution of the last 100 years of Northern Newfoundland and Labrador. The days ends with a stop at the Pistolet Bay Park and travel to Main Brook for lodgings.
