North of Kona there are many exclusive hotels on dark lava beaches and in the hinterland an abundance of coffee and 'Macademia nut plantations'. One of the main attractions is undoubtedly the Volcanoes National Park. The Crater Rim Road allows you to drive around the crater and stop at ancient and recent lava flows. The beautiful 'Rainbow Falls', the orchid farms near Hilo plus the statues of the gods at the historic site 'City of Refuge' complete the round of the island.

In the northwest you will find the rugged and almost inaccessible Na Pali Coast. Other not-to-be-missed attractions include: Waimea Canyon, a deep river gorge, the 'Kalalau Viewpoint' from where you get one of the most beautiful panoramas on the island and the Kilohana Plantation, one of the most important sugar cane plantations in Hawaii.
